There were only 2 tellers open at the business section and I was stopped right there at the entrance by the woman who closed her teller window. She said: "This is only for business customers, go back to the end of the line!!!" I was shocked, my face gotten red and I was angry. I went back to the end of the line and soon another lady started ushering people from my line to go to the business section tellers.
The woman that closed her window opened it again and the receptionist took the third teller window. Soon the long line was gone but I kept on talking and complaining about the lack of professionalism and public relations. The receptionist told me that he cannot do anything about the situation and if I like I could talk to the manager.
The manager talked to me right off the teller window. I felt like I had no privacy. He told me off and said that I should have used the computer.
If I were the manager, I would take the disgruntled customer to my office. Offer her water or coffee and discuss the problem instead of telling her off right in front of everybody. In addition, whether the customer is right or wrong, I would apologize for the inconvenience and promise to make it right the next time.
Guess what! This manager had been calling me to open a savings account at Chase. Do you think I should?
Now I wonder if I were dressed up in a nice business suit and not rugged-looking when I visited this bank, maybe I would be treated differently.
CHASE BANK
In the 1970's, Chase Bank was Ravenswood Bank in Chicago. It was located along Lawrence Avenue by Ravenswood across Sears. The bank became popular because it caters to working class customers like me. I took a few simple interest loans as well as checkguard. I felt like I was treated courteously and with respect.
In the 1980's, Ravenswood bank became First Chicago Bank. I took out a second mortgage through this bank from their affiliate mortgage company Midwest Mortgage. I resented that I was charged 3 points. I was naive homeowner then.
In the 1990's, First Chicago Bank became Bank One and I hated to change all my checkbooks for the name change of my bank.
In the 2000's, Bank One became Chase. I still have plenty of Bank One check and I intend to use them till they're gone. This time I think the name will stay longer because J.P. Morgan is a big conglomerate. I think I deserve some kind of understanding, respect and courtesy being with this bank for almost 40 years but I was wrong today, March 31, 2008.
I went personally to Chase bank by Mc Cormick and Devon. It was very convenient for me because I eat at Hongkong Buffet. This was just a routine payment for my property tax. As I got in, there were 4 tellers windows but 2 were open. One opted to close her window leaving only one open. Soon the line grew all the way to the door.
A man coming out of the Business banking teller section told us to go back there because there is no line. 2 men hurried to the back and I followed. I should have stayed where I was.
